ELZUBI to Al-Rai: Farmers’ Union and Agricultural Chamber Forge Strategic Partnership to Safeguard Jordan’s Agricultural Sector

Food security expert Dr. Fadel ELZUBI stressed that since its establishment in 1997 under Law No. 19, the General Union of Jordanian Farmers has served as the official umbrella organization uniting farmers across the Kingdom. The Union has worked to empower them, consolidate their efforts, and defend their interests. However, this vital role now faces deep institutional challenges that require urgent restructuring to ensure the Union remains a key player in advancing Jordanian agriculture and safeguarding its future.
Honorary Membership of the Jordanian Dates Association
It was a great honor for me to attend the 2025 National Annual Celebration of the Harvest of Jordanian Dates, organized by the Jordanian Dates Association at the Karameh branch of the Agricultural Engineers Syndicate in the Jordan Valley. I was privileged to receive an honorary membership certificate from the Association, an acknowledgment I deeply value and which motivates me to further contribute to the agricultural sector, particularly in strengthening the standing of Jordanian dates, one of the Kingdom’s most important palm products. This celebration also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the significance of palm cultivation and its vital role in the national economy, as the Association continues to support farmers, enhance production quality, and promote marketing both locally and globally, efforts that directly contribute to the sustainability of the sector and the creation of job opportunities for farmers and agricultural workers.
“ELZUBI to Al-Ghad: Restructuring the Farmers’ Union is a pressing imperative for organizing Jordan’s agricultural sector.”

The establishment of a Jordanian Agricultural Chamber with representative, regulatory, and marketing functions constitutes a top priority, alongside restructuring the General Union of Farmers to strengthen its field presence and enable it to fulfill its role in organizing agricultural production. These institutional reforms are not a matter of administrative luxury, but a strategic necessity to address current shortcomings and to activate the Union’s role as a principal partner in agricultural development. Restructuring, coupled with unifying references and activating governance tools, represents the optimal path to ensuring the stability of Jordan’s agricultural sector and enhancing its capacity to confront upcoming economic and social challenges
