ELZUBI to Al-Ghad: From Youth Seeking Jobs in Agriculture to Investing in the Future

Dr. Fadel ELZUBI, a food security expert, emphasized that attracting young people to work in the agricultural sector requires building a modern and efficient local production base, led by a generation skilled in technology and markets. This, he explained, is not a secondary developmental option but a cornerstone of national resilience. It aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision, which treats agriculture and food security as engines of growth rather than burdens on the budget.

ELZUBI stated: “Transformation will not happen automatically. The gap between potential and reality remains wide, and the enabling environment—from legislation to digital infrastructure to extension systems—needs serious reform, not slogans. Individual success stories, important as they are, cannot create sectoral transformation unless they evolve into systematic, scalable policy.”

He added that the direction is clear and the opportunity is real. The future of Jordanian agriculture depends on our ability to redefine the sector in the minds of young people—not as a refuge for those who failed to find work, but as a field for entrepreneurship, investment, and innovation. When youth move from being job seekers to becoming entrepreneurs and investors, agriculture shifts from a consuming sector to one that generates value, jobs, and growth. That is the equation we must bet on in the coming years.
