ELZUBI – Sudanese Crop Losses (QBC TV)
The upcoming agricultural season faces a severe risk of failure due to the combined impact of economic, military, and natural factors.
Agricultural input costs have risen sharply: fertilizer prices jumped by 67% (and in some reports from other states reached as high as 167%), while fuel prices surged by 220%. Irrigation systems have been heavily disrupted by ongoing military operations, compounded by meteorological forecasts predicting reduced rainfall.
Equally alarming are the looming crop losses: in the absence of rapid global humanitarian assistance and emergency interventions, agricultural losses could exceed the threshold of 40% or more.
