ELZUBI to Al-Ghad Newspaper — “Food Safety”… Jordan Urged to Improve Epidemiological Surveys

Food security expert Dr. Fadel ELZUBI believes that Jordan’s available indicators place the country at a medium level, noting that while the legislative framework is relatively good, it requires strengthening laboratory capacities, reporting systems, and data transparency. He explained that partial improvements have been achieved, yet antimicrobial resistance indicators and data gaps remain concerning.

ELZUBI told Al-Ghad that it is essential to enhance national WGS and PCR laboratories, expand digital traceability systems, launch household awareness campaigns, establish clear governance through mandates between the JFDA and municipalities, invest in cold-chain transport and irrigation water safety, and conduct a national economic assessment of the cost of foodborne diseases.

He added that the message to be conveyed on World Food Safety Day is that “Food safety is a shared responsibility that begins on the farm and extends to the table, and investing in it protects public health, supports food security, and strengthens the economy and tourism.”
